  by cutting off contact with the disfellowshipped or disassociated one, you are showing that you hate the attitudes and actions that led to that outcome.

  however, you are also showing that you love the wrongdoer enough to do what is best for him or her.

  Interestingly enough, in their recent tract to Russians, they cried foul about Russia making public denouncements of JWs.

  Here is the quote:

  CAN you imagine being denounced publicly as...dangerous? The very words are inflammatory,
  for they call to mind some of the worst
  crimes and the most frightening problems of our
  times. The more the claim is repeated, the more the
  people believe it. But does that make the accusations
  true?"

  So while it is hateful for Russian officals to publicly denounce JWs - it is loving for JWs to publicly denounce their own members?

  They also used an interesting analogy about it being wrong to blame a religion if it causes "strife" between family members when family member joins another religion.

  one elder stepped down and was looked down upon.

  Help me become a real CRAZY FUNDIE ATHEIST parent!

  hello friends!.

  once in a while you hear about fundie atheists, and i have desided to become one.

  but i need a bit of advice.. you see, apparently the fundie atheists are as messed up as their worst religious "fundie" counterparts, so i got some expectations to live up to.. i have desided to focus on how i should raise my child, since the religious dickery i hate the most has to do with how children are raised.

  In response to Journey-on, I'm not so sure that would be that traumatic in the long run. The two choices would be 1) to indulge her hallucinations and let her believe that people who hear voices in their minds are not experiencing a type of chemical imbalance symptom. In the long run, as people of sorts of religous beliefs hear voices and think they're real and go on to act on those voices in ways that harm themselves and others - little susie will thinnk that's perfectly normal. She may go on to hear voices telling her to hurt herself so she can be with grandma sooner, all that will be considered normal, because, well thats what she was allowed to go on thinking

  On the other hand 2) making her aware that self-induced mental projections that seem real have actually been studied and could turn out to be dangerous, well it doesn't seem that will ever do anything but cause little susie to grow up and understand how the mind works.

  As for it being a hard core athiest fundie tactic to cause long term damage - FAIL. Will only help this child understand reality. Most Christian believers (non fundie revelationists) would protect their child the same way.

  i always found that one particularly laughable.. the jw's would always look for plaudits because they don't christen/baptize infants.

  as if they are free thinking pioneers of christianity who let their children come to their own conclusions.. no, they don't baptize their children.. yet,.

  they would be happy to make a life & death medical choice for them before they are even old enough to think for themselves.they are happy to have their children 'fight the fine fight' on their parents behalf all the way through primary/high school.

  Along this same line of thought - does anyone remember that old door-to-door tactic that JWs are encouraged to use when they encounter a youth? Something along the lines of ...

  'Do your parents allow you to choose your own religious reading material' ?

  Pretty hypocritical,huh?

  JWs that tell members to go to homes and ask young people to think about a religion different from their family's - However at the same time JWs absolutely forbid their young ones to look into any other belief system.

  You are in the right place. That is - this forum is mostly frequented by those of Western Christian oriented cultural backgrounds. Had you wanted to know how some Hindu found enlightenment or How somebody else follows Buddha - you would probably be best visiting a forum with more people from those cultures.

  What's interesting is that the same answers you get to your question about Christianity would be basically the same answers you would get if you were asking about enlightment in India or Islam in Arab nations. And just like the discussions of Christianity will branch out into who's version is right, and what's the right pronunciation of the LORD and so on..., so too would discussions of the right version of Islam or any other religion proceed in the same manner.

  Anyway best wishes on your path to discovery. The above are just some of the points I like to keep in mind when chatting with the multiple brands of Christians you'll find here.

  Newbies or folks who have Been Here the last 2 years - How is your Fade Going?

  You know when you're getting a haircut and you tell the stylist to fade the back and the sides? Have you ever had one mess up the fade, so it just didn't look right? As a guy, when that happened to me, I just told the stylist to buzz the whole head right then and there - forget the fade.

  That's pretty much how it went with my WT org fade. It started out ok, then before I knew it, I felt like I was sitting in the barber chair waiting and waiting for that perfect blend and fade-out. Finally I said, forget it - just buzz it all off, i.e. stopped almost completely. Of course it helped that I switched congos, prior to starting my fade/buzz.

  I agree. Henschel, Sydlik, Swingle, & Barry were for the most part, pretty approachable and humble. I think they were a bit more balanced about their role than this new crew. I personally heard Sydlik really push higher education. He also had the least hard-lined stance on disfellowshipping.

  Those guys are gone now. It does seem that Jaracz was running the show and now you have his leftover cronies. Losch never did fit in, and some things he can be pretty hard lined about. I think they just needed a truly multilingual GB member to give talks internationally. He fit the bill. But in return they got his often space-agey ideas. But royalty needs a jester. What's a circus without clowns?

  Now it's changed. When you hear talks by Morris and he's pleading with the audience to "join their ranks" - there is no doubt, they're groveling.

  When you hear Lett compare higher education to trying to use a gun to shoot out a brain tumor - you sense they have a true fear of losing their power.

  When you hear Splane arbitrarily say the org was chosen by God in 1916 - you have to see it for what it is, an desire for a blind following like every other religion.
